Every year, the day is celebrated during the month of May or June and it is meant for remembering the day of reunification of the city and the introduction of Israeli control over the Old city belonging to Jerusalem in the year 1967 on the month of June.

It is also announced as the minor spiritual holiday for thanking god for the success in the six-day war and also for answering the two thousand year prayer of ‘next year in the city'.

School children are taught about the importance of the city and festive assemblies are organized in all the schools functioning in the city. In addition, many Jewish schools functioning in different nations also celebrate this day along with the school children.

 During the day, the soldiers, who lost their lives during the battle for the city of Jerusalem are remembered and prayers are conducted for their restful souls.

 During this day, people gather together in some of the significant places in the city like Western Wall for listening to lectures and songs conducted in praise of the city of Jerusalem.
